Donations for 'Students Planting the Future' restore local schoolyards

This was the first year we added the option for Plant Sale shoppers to donate money toward schoolyard restoration projects. This past spring, several schools received and planted their plants.  We wanted to be sure to share some photos of the transformation! Our hope is that this is just the beginning of more restoration and beautification to come.

We hope you enjoy these photos, and if you donated, we want to say THANK YOU for helping 'students plant the future'!

Everett High School re-planted many large, abandoned cement planters around campus.

The large cement planters were largely abandoned for many years until Environmental Systems Design teacher Danielle DeLuca engaged her students in restoring their function and beauty.

Students proudly stand by their school beautification project. Intermixed with ornamental plants are native succulents and ground covers donated through the Schools Plant the Future donation program. The ornamental plants were paid for through other funding.

Mukilteo Elementary used native plant donations to continue restoring the steep schoolyard habitat and outdoor learning space they created several years.

Before:

Prior the the school's restoration efforts (which began in 2013) the area where the outdoor classroom is now was riddled with ivy and other noxious weeds.

After:

Student volunteers plant natives in the schoolyard habitat. The school community has worked with local boy scout troops for several years to restore the schoolyard habitat.
