Lynnwood Rain Gardens Dressed Up By Community

On the solstice, June 21, we planted 7 rain gardens in the Perrinville Watershed of Lynnwood. Homeowners, Snohomish Conservation District (SCD) staff and Vet Crew, WSU Master Gardeners, City of Lynnwood staff, and volunteers from Edmonds Community College, completed the task with plenty of sunshine. SCD has many recurring partnerships with cities inside of our conservation district. We help to design and construct clusters of rain gardens, as an example, with the goal of protecting natural resources. Last year, in this same neighborhood, we completed 6 rain gardens, along with the installation of a bunch of rain barrels and our first rain bed!

We appreciate this partnership with the City of Lynnwood to further reduce stormwater (aka rain water that collects pollutants) runoff and potential flooding of this neighborhood.  We are continually impressed with citizens who adopt our best practices and become examples for their neighbors.

You can view videos of the dig out and filling process on our SCD Facebook page. And, we even had a visit from Congressman Rick Larsen during the rain garden construction process. Thanks to Rick for stopping by and chatting with our Vet Crew! Wouldn't it be cool if each conservation district had its own Vet Crew?

If you are curious about rain gardens for your neighborhood, please reach out to our Community Conservation Team. They'll be happy to chat with you about the possibilities.
