Kristoferson Update - Week Five
/Paving Begins Friday!
I have a brief update this week, folks.
Konnerup Construction has installed the Russell Road culvert! They will have their sub-contractor out to pave both Russell Rd. and Barnum/Triangle Bay Rd. on Friday, September 28th (tomorrow). Barnum/Triangle Bay Rd. may be closed for part of the day tomorrow, or the contractor may have flaggers on-site to direct traffic through the paving or around to Russell Rd.
Bottom line: you will be able to use one of the roads while the other is closed (or perhaps just a single lane of Barnum/Triangle Bay Rd.).
Plan for Russell Rd. to be re-opened late in the day Friday.
Next week will be my last weekly update to this email group, and then this email list will be deactivated (as I promised at the first and second public meetings; we won't spam you!). The project page will remain on our website, and we will continue to provide updates about this project and other Camano Island projects on our website, E-news, our print newsletter "The Nexus," and on Facebook and other social media platforms.

There will be more information to share about the NE Camano Rd. culvert replacement on Kristoferson Creek that Island County Public Works is currently developing; I'll let you know in my email next week how you can sign up to receive information about that project.
Thank you for your patience and support of this project. I've enjoyed talking with the people who have stopped by during construction, during the public meetings, and as I worked on this project over the last several years. The staff here at the District have all really enjoyed spending the last few weeks on Camano Island and on Triangle Cove. Thank you!

In order to ensure bank stability and prevent erosion, coir lifts are installed by the construction crew. These steps are filled with sand bags, woven natural coconut fiber, and topsoil so they will be easy to plant with willows later this fall.
Like the other culverts at Barnum Road, the base of the Russell Road culvert is filled with streambed materials.
In this photo you can see the placed culvert, fully surrounded with backfill materials and the coir lifts for stability.
And, the gravel is placed on top. Today, Thursday, it was probably compacted in readiness for paving on Friday.
